Heart of Borneo & saving the orangutans of Arabela / WWF Australia
WWF Australia, 2013
Abstract: Borneo has already lost more than half of its forests - and half its orangutans - through land clearing. For decades, the forest has been cleared and burnt, with no regard for the environment, for the orangutans, or the people living in and around the forests. Studies show that Bornean orangutans can survive in logged forests, but only if the impact of logging is reduced through selective logging, keeping fruit trees intact, and controlling hunting. This is why WWF is working with timber companies to develop specific protection and management plans for their concessions, in order to minimize the impact of logging on habitats and orangutan populations.
Sending the gungu home / WWF Australia
WWF Australia, 2013
Abstract: WWF-Australia has joined forces with the north Queensland community to help save Australia's beloved marine turtles. Some are starving to death with the disappearance of feeding areas, while a virus called 'fibropapilloma' is causing lesions and tumours. Sadly, little is known about marine turtles, which is why researches and local groups are racing against time to find out more about what is going on. Townsville's Turtle Hospital at Reef HQ is also trying to rehabilitate sick turtles, so this story is also about the joy that is felt, when a turtle recovers and is sent home.
Poaching hurts me here / by James Sherwood, Danielle Ryan
Bluebottle films, 2013
Abstract: Wildlife crime has triggered violence and insecurity in many countries throughout the world, and not even Costa Rica, one of the world’s most biodiverse eco-paradises, is immune. This multimedia investigative documentary explores the culture of poaching through writing, audio and visual stories. One component, a documentary report, provides viewers with the first investigative look into the heart of the Osa Peninsula where the park rangers are bravely risking their lives to protect a unique paradise, the Corcovado National Park. It is a place where one Canadian conservationist, an ally of the rangers has already lost her life in the fight to save wildlife. This dark journey ends with a message of hope, that this community will one day find peace.

Abstract: Kakadu in Australia’s Northern Territory: a remote and isolated wilderness and the last chance of survival for countless species. At 20,000 square kilometers, it is Australia’s largest terrestrial National Park. It’s a biological time capsule - a land dominated by towering escarpments, vast wetlands, extreme weather, indigenous culture and exotic wildlife. In this series we follow rangers and park residents over the course of a year as they overcome an endless stream of challenges to keep visitors safe and to push back the tide of serious environmental threats. Driven by the passion and dedication of traditional owners and park rangers, we embark on a first time journey behind the scenes of a natural universe.
